From the inspectors

Council inspectors have advised that, although it was released in February 2018, about 50% of routine pharmacy inspections have shown the pharmacy to be non-compliant in so far as the Australian Pharmaceutical Formulary and Handbook 24th Edition is concerned.

Other reference texts often missing at pharmacies are the AMH Children’s Dosing Companion and the Australian Don’t Rush to Crush Handbook.

Please check that you have these publications as well as those required under the Health Practitioner Regulation (New South Wales) Regulation 2016 available at your pharmacy, and if not, obtain current copies of them in preparation for your next routine pharmacy inspection by Max or Grahame.

To find out which reference texts are required in your pharmacy, refer to the Pharmacy Board of Australia’s Guidelines on practice-specific issues – Guideline 1 (List of reference texts for pharmacists) available on the Pharmacy Board of Australia’s website.

Each pharmacy and any associated professional services room (as defined in the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law (NSW)) is required to have the latest editions, and all published amendments or supplements  to those editions, in either hard copy or electronic format available to ALL pharmacists working there, of all the publications advised in Schedule 5 (for pharmacy premises) and Schedule 6 (for professional services room premises), respectively, of the Health Practitioner Regulation (New South Wales) Regulation 2016 by adopting the publications listed in the Pharmacy Board of Australia’s Guidelines on practice-specific issues—Guideline 1 (List of reference texts for pharmacists), as amended from time to time.
